Diversity, inclusion, & compliance...

If your organization is like others, you are employing a very diverse workforce.

A diverse organization brings significant advantages to any organization.  But along with those advantages come some interesting challenges.

  • Benefit One:  Adaptive - diversity means differences and different perspectives bring different solutions to problems.
     
  • Benefit Two:  Broader Skill Sets - different experiences bring greater understanding to internal and external issues
     
  • Benefit Three:  Broader Viewpoints - more and different ideas are generated and shared
     
  • Benefit Four:  Better Execution - there may be many good ways to achieve the same objective

Along with those benefits come inherent challenges that can limit the diverse and inclusive nature of the organization.

  • Challenge One:  Resistance to Change - many people respond negatively to any form of change.  As a result, certain behaviors and actions occur which contribute to an exclusionary environment.
     
  • Challenge Two:  Exclusionary Practices - some establishes work procedures will need to be investigated to ensure they are not contributing to exclusionary practices.
     
  • Challenge Three:  Fairness and Objectivity - new methods of evaluation, task assignment, and appraisal may need to be implemented to ensure fairness and objectivity for all employees.
     
  • Challenge Four:  Communication - diversity means differences and often these differences need clarity and direction.  Diverse workgroups require greater attention to clear, open, and honest communication.

Representative of that work is the program Valuing Workforce Diversity (VWD).  VWD provides the participant with a solid understanding of the benefits of a diverse organization from a business issue perspective.
